  • The square Hu is one of a pair. The other now is in the Beijing Palace Museum. They are the utensils found in the tomb of Marquise Cheng of the State of Cheng. The elaborate Hu has an openwork lid. Two handles are coiled dragons which cling on the neck, turn their heads backwards and stick out their tongues. A cross-shape spine was placed on the belly. There is also a pair of tongue-sticking crouching dragons on the long-square base. The complicate patterns add to its elaboration, which is the unique style of the Spring-and-Autumn Period.
