Identity involves the conception and expression of the self in individuals and groups searching to understand “Who am I?” or “Who are we?” Museums tell stories of lands, of peoples, and of nations, serving to unite our shared past, present, and future. The existence of museums can help us to form our common identity, to interpret our poignant stories and to pass them on to future generations. The National Museum of History was delighted and honored to work with Taipei National University of the Arts, the University of Leicester’s School of Museum Studies, and the Victoria and Albert Museum for Museum 2011. The conference had more than sixty papers and keynote speeches from over twenty five countries. Dr. Suzanne MacLeod and Dr. Yui-Tang Chang collected some Chinese and English papers and published respectively into a serial of NMH Museum Studies to share ideas and dialogues with museum professionals around the world.
