Since its establishment in 1978, the Wu San-Lien Award foundation has been devoted to the patronage and popularization of Taiwanese art and has won great respect from society. Over the past 30 years, awards of its wide ranging - Literature Awards, Art Award, Social Science Award and Medical Award - the recipients have shown great concern and care about culture, the arts and society. The awards have encouraged Taiwanese to realize ideals and have been a great influence on the promotion of a humane social environment in Taiwan.
The National Museum of History is very honored to collaborate with the foundation in holding the exhibition, Image of Taiwan – An exhibition of Wu San-Lien Art Award Recipients on the occasion of their thirtieth anniversary. In thirty years, there have been 34 recipients of the Art Award, including: 11 in the western painting category – Wu Lung-Jung, Liao Shiou-Ping, Chen Ching-Jung, Wu Hsuan-San, Lai Chuan-Chien, Hsiao Ju-Sung, Cheng Shi-Fa, Lin Chih-Hsin, Wang Guo-Zhen, Chen Yin-Huei and Pan Chaur-Seu, 10in the Chinese painting category - Chou Cheng, Lee Yi-Hong, Tu Tsam-Lin, Chang Shen-Hsi, Yen Shen-Che, Lin Wen-San, Liao Chun-Mu, Chen Mu-Yu, Hsu Wen-Jung, Lin Ching-Ching, 4 in the calligraphy category: Tu Chung-Kao, Tung Kai-Chang, Chen Wei-De, Lin Long-Dar, 3 in the sculpture category: Chen Cheng-Hsiung, Kao Tsan-Hsing, Kuo Chin-Chih, and 6 in the photography category: Quo Ying-Sheng, Lin Chi-Chi, Ling Po-Liang. Ko Si-Chi, Chuang Ling, Chang Tsang-Sang. These recipients are representative figures in the Taiwan art circles. Their works show unique personal styles and variety of the Taiwan art. With this exhibition, the artistic achievements of the recipients are displayed in the hope that more people will understand the rebuilt Taiwan spirit and faith that the Wu San-Lien Award represents for the benefit of society.
