Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) is a Dutch master, in whose short 37 years of life, devoted only 10 years to creating art, but left more than 800 paintings and 1200 drawings, which have generated inspiration and appreciation. To hold the artist’s first solo exhibition in Taiwan as the 120th anniversary of his death approaches would be a good way to commemorate this great artist. This exhibition shows rarely seen drawings by Van Gogh from the collection of the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, the Netherlands. To carry on the ideal, “for the benefit and pleasure of the community”, of its founder, Mrs. Helene Kröller-Müller, the Kröller-Müller Museum has generously shared 97 treasured artworks of Van Gogh to enable us to explore his art world. One oil painting from the artist’s Auvers-sur-Oise period, generously loaned by the Pola Museum of Art for this exhibition, is also on show. With 77 drawings and 21 oil paintings, visitors will be able to follow Van Gogh’s route to artistic creation, enjoying the journey of a master of art.
